"We were pleased to recognize them for their efforts to help meet the needs of our underserved citizens and to raise awareness of the importance of dental care access."
Rainwater and Tanner were instrumental in forming DHP in 1982 as a City of Dallas dental clinic. It has since grown to be a nonprofit organization with nine locations in four Texas cities: Dallas, Garland, McKinney and Plano.
A member of the DHP board since its inception, Rainwater has been in private practice for more than 30 years; in fact, he started his dental career with Dental Health Programs. Rainwater has served as president of the American
Dental Association and delegate to the Texas Dental Association.
A member of the DHP board for several years, Tanner has been responsible for the ongoing, positive relationship between the organization and the City of Dallas. His
DHP work earned kudos from DCDS when the society named him Layperson of the Year in 1996. President of the Dallas Breakfast Group, Tanner has served as DHP's interim executive director and as executive director of the Community
Council of Greater Dallas.
