Access System

BCD implements new access system

Separate identification badges and building access cards will be a thing of the past when new employee and student ID badges are issued in July. The new access system is more convenient because only one badge is needed to access the building, the parking garage and the Axium system.

"We are upgrading to the latest technology to provide secure access for employees and students," said Sam McDonald, chief of security. "The system has a reliable memory system that will be invaluable should security issues arise. We believe it will meet BCD's needs well into the future."

In addition to the access system, BCD's security cameras have been updated as well. Digital recording capabilities will provide long-term security benefits without the problems of videotape.

"Digital recording provides the quality and long-term accessibility the security staff needs to help protect BCD employees, students and property," McDonald said. "In addition, it should be helpful whenever security investigation is warranted."

Implementation of these new security measures is being coordinated through the Security Office in the Office of Facilities Services and Planning; Media Resources; and the Department of Clinical Services.
