A group from the Tsurumi University School of Dental Medicine in Yokohama, Japan, gave a seminar on prosthodontic topics at Baylor College
of Dentistry May 29. They also met with Dr. James Cole (BCD '75), dean, during their visit to the college. The seminar was the first activity of the
academic exchange agreement between the university and The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center since the agreement was signed in March. It is similar to the academic exchange agreement between the HSC
and Nagasaki University, also in Japan. Dr. Toru Okabe, Regents professor and chair of biomaterials science, and Dr. Ron Woody,
professor and director of graduate prosthodontics in restorative sciences, welcomed participants. Dr. Takayuki Aoki,
a visiting scientist in biomaterials science at BCD and an instructor in removable prosthodontics at Tsurumi University, presented "Laboratory Problems for Fabricating Cast Titanium Dentures."
Other Tsurumi presenters and their topics included:
- Dr. Toshio Hosoi, dean and chair of removable prosthodontics; "Introduction to Tsurumi University School of Dental Medicine and the Department of Removable Prosthodontics" and "Long-term Observations of
Removable Titanium Dentures";
- Dr. Satomi Nakayoshi, postgraduate student; "Removable Prosthodontics Introduction to Tsurumi University Undergraduate and Postgraduate School of Dental Medicine"; and
- Dr. Chikahiro Ohkubo, instructor in removable prosthodontics; "Clinical Assessment of Cast Titanium Dentures." Ohkubo was a visiting scientist in biomaterials science at BCD from May 1997 to June 1998.
