Each year, NDA's convention provides continuing education for its members and other oral health professionals through scientific lectures, hands-on
clinics and health symposia. BCD presenters include Dr. Byron Benson, professor of diagnostic sciences; Dr. Neil Frederiksen,
professor of diagnostic sciences and director of oral and maxillofacial radiology; Dr. Hui Liang assistant professor of diagnostic sciences; and Dr. Wayne Woods, associate professor of
restorative sciences.Benson will present a lecture on digital radiography; Frederiksen and Liang will give a lecture on standard radiography. Woods will conduct a hands-on laboratory on temporary crown
preparation.
The NDA is the largest, oldest organization for minority oral health professionals in the world. The parent organization of the Student National Dental Association, NDA also
is the umbrella organization to the National Dental Hygienists Association, the National Dental Assistants Association and the Auxiliary to the NDA.
These NDA-affiliated groups will convene
their annual meetings concurrently with the NDA meeting. During a joint presentation to NDHA and NDAA members, also on July 27, Dr. Lavern Holyfield, assistant professor of public health
sciences, will discuss "Nicotine Dependency: Prevention and Treatment Strategies."
Dr. Claude R. Williams,
director of community outreach services in the Office of Communications and Development, coordinated BCD's sponsorship of the scientific sessions. An active member of the NDA for 48 years, he has served as a board member for the organization and the NDA Foundation. He also is a past chair of the NDA Education Committee.
