BCD students make presentations

The Department of Public Health Sciences' Community Connections initiative provided outreach programs and services in several Dallas-area locations recently. D3 students made Tooth Talk presentations to students at one preschool, five elementary schools, and one middle school in Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, Plano and Richardson. These students also worked with middle school and high school visitors to Baylor College of Dentistry in eight Project Dental Awareness programs.

Dental and dental hygiene students provided dental exams, oral cancer screenings and dental health education at six public and two corporate health fairs in Dallas, Garland and Sachse. In addition, dental screenings were provided for the students at three Dallas elementary schools. Dr. John Nelson, retired associate dean for clinical services and professor emeritus of public health sciences, was the supervising dentist at these events.

Dr. Jason Havard (BCD '02), a pediatric dentistry resident, represented the college at a wellness event sponsored by the Mesquite Independent School District.
