Dru Lewis

Dru Lewis, clinic manager in orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry, was named Staff Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2002. Given by the college's Staff Forum, the award was presented by Dr. Richard Ceen, professor of orthodontics

Ceen commented on how important Lewis is to the department's faculty,

students and patients because of the great job she does. "She makes each day special," he said. "I hope she stays at BCD a long time."

Lewis has worked at BCD for five years. She and her husband, Charles, have a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Charla. They have two Jack Russell terriers named Moe and Joe.

Hometown: Mabank, Texas

Place I'd like to live/retire: Anywhere away from the city in a very rural area

Personal motto: Work like you don't need the money, dance like nobody's watching, and love like you've never been hurt.

Best thing about my job or BCD: People I work with and the residents

If I wasn't at BCD, I'd …: be retired.

Life philosophy: Always have an ace in the hole.

Pet peeves: Unmotivated people

Favorite vacation destination: New England states in the fall

Dream car: Jaguar

Favorite hobby: Gardening; I love being outdooors.

Word that best describes me: Intense

Something you might not know about me: I rode and showed horses for several years.

Top three passions: Children, home, job

What my colleagues say about me: "Dru is one of the hardest working and most responsible people I have ever met," said Dr. Rolf Behrents, chair of orthodontics. "Her intensity is legend and springs from the pace of her mind, words and actions – and her commitment to quality and integrity.

"While the focus on her work is sharp, Dru also is highly regarded for her personal qualities," he continued. "She is admired for her insight and quick wit, her sensitive interior and her demonstrations of concern for others. Those who know her best admire, respect and have deep affection for this tireless worker and outstanding person."

Julie Bradshaw, administrative coordinator in orthodontics, also commended Lewis' work ethic. "Dru is the most dedicated employee I have ever worked with," she said. "If Dru is given a project, you never have to worry about it again because you know that she will give it 110 percent. She is delightful to work with!"
