Women's Club plans bake sale, names chili winners

Feb. 14 is a day you won't want to miss at Baylor College of Dentistry. That's when the BCD Women's Club will host its annual Valentine's Day bake sale. Lots of sweet treats will be available for purchase, and proceeds benefit the club's fund that underwrites an annual scholarship presented to a dental or dental hygiene student.

Women's Club Members prepare to feed Chili aficionados during the Club's annual Chilli Cook-Off in November. Front row, from left: Brenda Harmon and Carol Libby. Back row from left: Carmen Banks, LaDawn Brock and Lori Dees.

Through several fund-raising activities during the year, the Women's Club also supports the BCD Social Services Dental Care Fund administered by the Department of Public Health Sciences. The club has monthly lunch meetings for members; the next meeting is Jan. 22 in Room 604.

In November, the group's seventh annual chili cook-off attracted 14 chili chefs and brought in more than $250 for the scholarship fund. Dr. Loulou Moore (BCD '93, '94), assistant professor of restorative sciences, took top honors in the Hottest and Judges' Choice categories. Linda Boyd, lead medical records clerk in clinical services, placed first in the People's Choice category. Carmen Banks, graphic

artist in media resources, took second place in both the Judges' Choice and People's Choice categories. Judges included Marty Baylor, director of financial services; Dr. Charles Berry (BCD '73), associate dean for academic services; and Dr. Richard Tollefsbol, assistant professor of diagnostic sciences. Carol Libby, administrative coordinator in periodontics, coordinated the event. The Department of Continuing Education provided its kitchen and facilities, and Women's Club members performed set-up and clean-up tasks.

New officers for 2001-2002 include: Brenda J. Harman, president and wife of Dr. William Harman, associate dean for student and alumni services; Libby, president-elect; Lori Dees, secretary and administrative projects coordinator in communications and development; Leeanna Bartlett, treasurer and assistant professor and director of social services in public health sciences; Barbara Cole, ex-officio and wife of Dr. James S. Cole (BCD '75), BCD dean; and Pearl Kapuscinski, e-mail coordinator and administrative coordinator in oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology.
