Hometown: I am a Dallas girl, but I currently live at Cedar Creek Lake.
Place I'd like to live/retire: I think it would be an adventure to live anywhere. As long as there's love, it's always home.
Role models: I have the utmost respect for anyone who has overcome adversity and found their own way to happiness. Sometimes happiness is waiting for you, but you have to have the courage to go get it.
Personal motto: I'm not what I should be … I'm not what I'm going to be … but at least I'm not what I was.
Best thing about my job or BCD: The best thing about working here at BCD is the extended family I've gained.
Career highlight:
The highlight (as well as the privilege) is the opportunity to work with the most talented faculty assembled in one place in the world. Drs. Wakefield, Hasegawa, Dumbrigue, Patterson and Taleghani are a constant source of support. Dr. Wakefield in particular with his outstanding leadership continually challenges me to make our clinic better.
If I wasn't at BCD, I'd …: Oh, who knows … maybe be a professional burden on society.
Life philosophy: A tornado doesn't look like a tornado up close, but then again, neither do miracles!
Pet peeve: People who take life too seriously
Favorite vacation destination: I think it's more important who you're with than where you go. I've always loved the sunsets in Colorado, and someday I'd like to see Ireland.
Dream car: Oh, this is too easy! A 1969 Shelby; candy-apple red with black leather interior.
Favorite hobby: Cooking. There's nothing like those unplanned moments when everyone's in the kitchen laughing and eating things you've made especially for them. It really makes a house a home.
Word that best describes me: I don't think I can describe me in one word (but then again, I can't describe anything in one word). Let's just say I'm a work in progress.
Something you might not know about me: I'm a perfectly normal person trapped in this strange person's body.
Top three passions: My family, my home and my job
What my colleagues say about me: "Kimberly is an energetic, vivacious, efficient and knowledgeable individual who helps make AEGD run like a well-oiled machine," said Dr. Frank Baker,
assistant professor of general dentistry. "She is a tireless worker and justly deserves the Staff-Employee-of-the-Quarter Award. It was nice to see such a dedicated person recognized in this way.
"I enjoy working with Kimberly for many reasons," Baker continued. "She has a fabulous sense of humor and an endless knowledge and wisdom on operating a dental clinic."
Dr. Herman Dumbrigue,
associate professor of general dentistry and assistant director of the AEGD program, agrees. "Kimberly is the string that ties the AEGD clinic together. She is a walking and talking policy manual," he said. "She is an indispensable clinic manager who ensures that residents, staff and faculty are doing their jobs properly."
According to Dr. Charles Wakefield,
professor of general dentistry and director of the AEGD program, her colleagues probably say things about her like, "They don't pay you enough for what you do for the college" and "Why do you spend so much time here? Get a life!"
Yet after realizing the scope of her capability, her capacity to accomplish large amounts of work and her ability to multitask – and knowing Southern is constantly offered other positions at higher pay – Wakefield
states (with a smile): "She's going nowhere!"
