"Bring a Buddy" is the theme of Baylor College of Dentistry's next blood drive Feb. 18 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 604. Sponsored by Delta Sigma Delta and open to faculty, staff and
students, the blood drive's goal is 80 units.
Tanya Pierce (D3), DSD president, and Jackie Vo (D4), DSD community service chair, are coordinating the event with Sharon Limes,
college nurse in the Student Health Clinic. "The nation's blood banking community wants to ensure that blood is available to patients whenever and wherever it is needed, because it is the blood on the shelves that saves lives," Limes said. "Less than 5 percent of the population gives blood, yet nearly 90 percent will need some blood product before reaching the age of 72."
No appointment is necessary – just stop by when your schedule permits. The appointment takes from 45 minutes to an hour and includes four steps: registration, mini-physical, blood donation and snacks. A
routine whole-blood donation usually takes only 10 minutes.
"Invite a co-worker or classmate to come along," Limes suggested. "It makes the experience more fun and doubles our donations."
