BCD in the News

Baylor College of Dentistry's nationally syndicated television oral health news report, "Dental Health Check," airs locally each Monday during WFAA-TV's 6 a.m. and noon newscasts. In addition, "Dental Health Check" segments are now rebroadcast several times a day on the Texas Cable News Network.

"Dental Health Check is available on BCD's Web site as well. Visit the site for scripts and information about the latest segments. Hosted by Dr. Linda Niessen (BCD), the report's recent topics include:

• "Dental Financing?" featuring Dr. Brad Salter (BCD '86). Do you need expensive dental work but can't afford it? The answer may be to finance it. With interest rates at an all-time low, special dental plans are literally putting new smiles on patients' faces.
• "Holiday Wisdom Teeth" featuring Dr. David Roberts. The upcoming Christmas holiday remains one of the most popular times of the year to have wisdom teeth removed. Now may be the wisest time to schedule the surgery for a college student.
• "Instant Dentures" featuring Dr. Susan Hollar (BCD '80). The fear of being without teeth for even a few days causes many people to put off getting dentures. Many dentists eliminate that fear by removing teeth and placing a denture the same day.
• "Test Tube Teeth" featuring Dr. Lynne Opperman (BCD). What if your dentist could help you regrow a new tooth instead of implanting an artificial one? Sound farfetched? It's being done in laboratories right now.
• "Thanksgiving Smile" featuring Dr. Lee Fitzgerald (BCD '85). In holiday photos, do you hide your teeth by smiling with your lips together? Tis the season to take action just as one Dallas woman with a famous voice did. She plans to smile for the first time in upcoming holiday photos.

Baylor College of Dentistry is featured in each issue of Dateline, a bimonthly newsletter published by the Dallas County Dental Society. In addition to news and feature articles, college information and highlights are reported in the "Baylor Byline" column.

Baylor College of Dentistry was mentioned in several articles. "Director hired for new Dental Hygiene Program at NTCC" appeared in the Sept. 3 edition of The Daily Tribune in Mount Pleasant, Texas. "Taking learning to a higher level" appeared in the Sept. 5 edition of The Dallas Morning News. "Gould hired for new dental hygiene program" appeared in the Sept. 11 edition of The Bee in Daingerfield, Texas. "Fall Festival set Sept. 21" appeared in the Sept. 12 edition of The White Rocker in Dallas. "A Great Feeling ... Helping Others" appeared in the Nov. 9 edition of Courier Times-Telegraph in Tyler, Texas. Dr. William H. Gerlach (BCD '87) and Dr. Mickey Vaclav (BCD '74), president of Dentists Who Care, both of Amarillo, Texas, also were mentioned in the article. 

 Dr. Roger Alexander (BCD) was featured in "Jobs Rank Low As Risk Factors For Suicide." The article appeared in the Nov. 12 edition of The New York Times.

Dr. Charles Arcoria (BCD '80) was featured in "Cosmetic work fills dental schedules." The article appeared in the Nov. 17 edition of The Dallas Morning News.

Dr. Philip Campbell (BCD '71) was featured in "Local orthodontist named to hall of fame." The article appeared in the July 25 edition of Huntsville Item in Huntsville, Texas.

Dr. Thomas Harrison (BCD '79) was featured in "Local dentist named to board of directors." The article appeared in the Oct. 23 edition of Katy Times in Katy, Texas.

Dr. Melody Stampe (BCD '96) was featured in "Stampe Awarded AGD Fellowship title." The article appeared in the Oct. 23 edition of Wylie News in Wylie, Texas.
