BCD's homecoming features CE, gala, family activities Homecoming Weekend, sponsored by the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association, is set for Sept. 20-21. The weekend includes continuing education, a women's
seminar and the annual Alumni Gala. In addition, several reunions are being planned.
The festivities begin with two continuing education programs Sept. 20. Dr. Charles Wakefield,
director of BCD's Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, will offer a full-day course titled "Update on Current Restorative Materials."Dr. K. Vendrell Rankin (BCD '77), associate
professor of public health sciences, and Dr. Harvey Kessler, associate professor of diagnostic sciences, will offer a two-part course. Rankin's morning program is titled " Diagnosis Tricks and Cancer Sticks: The Clinical Practice of Oral Cancer Detection and Nicotine Cessation." Kessler's afternoon portion is titled "Learning the
ABCs of Clinical Differential Diagnosis." To make Homecoming Weekend a family-inclusive event, a number of new activities are planned this year. Spouses are encouraged to attend lunch with the CE
participants Sept. 20; following lunch, a guided tour of the college will be offered. Also on Sept. 20, spouses and alumni alike will have the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon women's health seminar. Plus, individual alumni receptions will be hosted that evening at the Stoneleigh Hotel for the classes of
1997, 1992, 1987, 1982, 1977, 1972, 1967 and 1962. On Sept. 21, families can enjoy a day at The Science Place in Fair
Park. Special group rate tickets will be offered along with a picnic lunch at the Fair Park Lagoon.The weekend culminates that evening with the Homecoming Gala at the Fairmont Hotel. Alumni will gather
with former classmates, faculty, administrators and current students for dinner and dancing. Betty J. Scott, former registrar at BCD, will be honored during the event.
