BCD faculty, staff, students shine in AADR meeting

Baylor College of Dentistry was a huge success at the American Association for Dental Research's annual session in San Antonio March 12-15. Numerous faculty and students made presentations.

Two students were inducted into the top positions of the National Student Research Group: Erik Kern (D3), president, and Joe Rawlins (D2), vice president. Rawlins also received one of the prestigious 2003 AADR Student Research Fellowship awards. Dr. Lynne Opperman, assistant professor of biomedical sciences, is his mentor.

Andi McPhillips (D2) and James VandeBerg (D2) were award winners in the AADR's Caulk/Denstsply Student Research Competition. McPhillips took second place in the basic sciences division; her mentor is Dr. Robert Spears (BCD '02), assistant professor of biomedical sciences. VandeBerg was a finalist in the clinical sciences division; his mentor is Dr. Bob Hinton, associate professor of biomedical sciences.
