BCD faculty, staff tapped for leadership
Dr. Roger Alexander, professor and director of undergraduate surgery training and clinics in oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology, and Dr. Bob Schow, professor and director of the graduate
training division in OMS/P, were invited to participate in the Task Force on Faculty Recruitment and Retention. Sponsored by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the group met March 18-20 at
the association's headquarters in Chicago.
Alexander and Schow joined 36 other task force participants to discuss possible solutions for faculty shortages in oral and maxillofacial surgery education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The shortages
are expected due to the retirement of current faculty members.
Dr. Bill Harman,
associate dean for student and alumni services, was elected chair of the Section on Student Affairs and Financial Aid at the American Dental Education Association's annual meeting in San Antonio March 11.
Steve Willis,
supervisor of network services in information technology services, was invited to join the North Texas Regional Technology Consortium in March. He will serve on the 25-member panel for three to five years.
Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, the consortium promotes broad-spectrum reform in technical education. Members develop and recommend changes in information technology skills curricula for
colleges and universities. Willis will provide expertise in the area of high growth, special security problems and other aspects inherent to health care.
In addition to his responsibilities at BCD, Willis has taught computer networking courses in the Dallas County Community College District in the evenings and on weekends for the last five years.
