Student Research Group sponsors annual auction

Baylor College of Dentistry's Student Research Group will host its annual auction April 15-17. Items for the silent auction will be in the B-level atrium from noon to 1 p.m. April 15 and 16. Silent auction items will be moved to the sixth floor lobby April 17. The silent auction will close after the live auction, which begins at noon.

The auction serves as SRG's major fund-raising event of the year. "Last year, the

group earned more than $6,000 with the auction," said Robert Spears, SRG faculty adviser and instructor in biomedical sciences. "The money is used to finance student travel to various research meetings and to provide financial support for student research and academic activities."

SRG auction items are donated by faculty, staff, students and vendors. To donate items or for more information about the auction, contact Spears at Ext 8297.

SRG Research Day set for April 10

Recognizing the research efforts of Baylor College of Dentistry's dental and dental hygiene students, graduate students and faculty is the goal of the college's annual Research Day. Set for April 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the sixth floor lobby, the program is sponsored by the BCD Student Research Group; it receives additional support from the American Association for Dental Research's Dallas section and participating vendors.

Dr. Anthony Iacopino, associate dean for research and graduate studies at Marquette University School of Dentistry and AADR national student research faculty adviser, is the keynote speaker. Previously, he was an associate professor of biomedical sciences at BCD and also served as SRG's faculty adviser.

In addition to the invited speaker, Research Day features poster and oral presentation formats as well as competitions for all students that include cash awards for winners. Vendors will be on hand to provide information about various dental products.

For more information, contact Robert Spears, SRG faculty adviser and instructor in biomedical sciences, at Ext 8297. A detailed article about Research Day appeared in the March edition of BDR Online, which can be accessed on BCD's website.
