The 2007-2008 State Employee Charitable Campaign at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry will kick off Sept. 26 with a vendor fair and pledge drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the sixth floor lobby.

Representatives will be on campus to promote various charitable organizations featured in the 2007 Directory of Charities, which lists all organizations eligible to receive donations through the SECC. The first 30 employees to pledge donations at the Sept. 26 event will receive an HSC-BCD coffee mug.

HSC-BCD’s campaign is chaired by Liz Lester, assistant director of financial aid, who organized last year’s campaign along with Dale Lewis, clinic coordinator in professional services. Under their leadership, SECC participation at the college tripled in 2006 compared to the previous year. Lester hopes to continue that trend in 2007 in both participation and total dollars raised.

“Last year we exceeded our participation goal due to the generosity of BCD faculty and staff,” says Lester. “This year we hope to build on the success of last year’s campaign and raise over $30,000 for the SECC.  We are looking forward to an exciting campaign.”

Employees interested in participating in the campaign have until Oct. 31 to select the charities they wish to support and turn in their pledge cards to the human resources office located in room 524. Donations can be made through one-time payments or monthly payroll deductions of as little as $2 per charity.

The SECC is an annual giving campaign created in 1993 for employees of state agencies, junior and community colleges and universities throughout Texas. Last year, the campaign raised $9.2 million statewide for various charitable organizations.
