Library remote accessBaylor Health Sciences Library announced recently that all Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry students, faculty and staff now have an easy way to access the library’s full-text electronic resources from off-campus.

The new system, EZProxy, will allow anyone with a valid HSC-BCD email address and password to simply log in from any computer, anywhere in the world. Access is fast and smooth.

“This is something I have wanted to implement for many years, but the network structure we had in place just couldn’t support it,” says Library Director Cindy Scroggins.

“With the new system, graduate students will no longer have to come in on nights and weekends to do thesis research – they can do it on a laptop from Starbucks,” continues Scroggins. “Students will be able to find articles for upcoming projects while home on spring break rather than frantically trying to pull it all together before they leave.

”As for HSC-BCD faculty, access to the library resources most needed for their research is now available to them while they are on sabbatical at other universities, or otherwise away from campus.

“In short, I think the new system will make life a bit easier for the BCD community,” says Scroggins.

She and her staff appreciate the help of the Office of Information Technology in College Station in getting the new system up and running in a relatively short time. Scroggins praises Matthew Christy, system librarian, and Jason Tasker, senior lead network engineer for the HSC, for their diligent work in completing this project. She also thanks David Cantrell, associate vice president and chief information officer for the HSC, for providing all the hardware and software and support necessary to implement the new system. Instructions for accessing the new server system have been placed at the bottom of the library’s homepage: www.bcd.tamhsc.edu/library
