Dr. Lavern J. Holyfield, assistant professor in public health sciences, and Dr. Brad Crump, clinical assistant professor in periodontics, were formally inducted as fellows of the American College of Dentists during the group’s annual meeting Oct. 1 in Honolulu.

Organized in 1920, the ACD is the oldest national honorary organization for dentists. Only 3.5 percent of dentists in the United States are ACD fellows. Membership in the ACD is by invitation only and based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society.

Holyfield is a 1977 graduate of HSC-Baylor College of Dentistry. She currently serves as director of faculty development within academic affairs. Crump is a 1997 graduate and the 2007 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
