Berry represents HSC employees

Dr. Charles BerryDr. Charles Berry, associate dean for academic affairs, has been re-elected by the staff and faculty within the Texas A&M Health Science Center to serve as a representative on the System Employee Benefits Advisory Committee.

Berry’s term, his fourth in this position, will run from Sept. 1, 2009, until Aug. 31, 2011. Of three HSC representatives, he is the only one with voting privileges.

As a representative, Berry will convey the benefit needs and concerns of HSC’s employees and retirees. He says his main focus is strong communication between SEBAC and HSC. He also wants to focus on holding costs low and benefits high while remaining in the operating margin.

“It has been gratifying to serve as the college and HSC SEBAC representative over the years,” Berry says. He has served on several SEBAC subcommittees and has been described as “an excellent reference source” on benefits issues.

“Dr. Berry has already demonstrated a mature judgment and sincere interest in employee insurance programs,” says Jim Nachlinger, human resources director for HSC. “[He has] a willingness to devote adequate time, not only to attend periodic meetings, but also to solicit input and feedback from all of us about benefits coverage for employees and retirees.”
