Kacy Brown ’09 and Karen Delaney ’09 received the Sigma Phi Alpha scholarships this spring as senior dental hygiene students.

Brown says her favorite part of dental hygiene school has been working in the clinics because of the “hands-on” skills she has learned. In addition to the thrill of her graduation this month, Brown is planning a June wedding to new dental graduate T.J. Dillard ’09.

Delaney describes her favorite course, dental materials, as “kindergarten all over again.” Moreover, she says studying dental hygiene confirmed her longtime interest in becoming a dentist. The mother of three is applying for dental school this fall.

Brown and Delaney were awarded the scholarships April 13. Each received $750 for the award.

Sigma Phi Alpha is a national dental hygiene honor society that was founded in 1958.
