Awards & Honors
Dr. Carmen Elena Briceno
Dr. Carmen Elena Briceno, a 2007 orthodontics graduate student at HSC-BCD, received the Milo Hellman Award May 19 at the American Association of Orthodontists’ annual meeting in Denver.
The award is the premier research award in orthodontics; it recognizes original work of unusual merit and significance. Briceno received this award for efforts completed in partial fulfillment of her Master of Science degree.
The award would not have been possible without the assistance of Dr. Megan Hembree, a fellow 2007 orthodontics graduate who worked closely with Briceno, and funds provided by the Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics and the Department of Orthodontics. Briceno’s thesis committee included Drs. Peter Buschang, professor of orthodontics; Emile Rossouw, professor and chair of orthodontics; Robert Spears, assistant professor in biomedical sciences; and Roberto Carrillo, graduate research assistant.
Briceno completed her undergraduate work at the University of Miami and earned her dental degree from the University of Florida. She received her certificate in orthodontics and master’s degree from HSC-BCD in 2007. Briceno currently practices in South Miami, Fla.
