Staff Development Day
Morning seminars included "Workplace attitudes: The art of creating a great place to work” and “Managing the high-maintenance people in your life.” In the afternoon, staff learned first aid basics and heard about the physical and mental benefits of laughter.
The final seminar of the day was based on "Fish! Catch the energy, release the potential," a video about four principles that guide employees at the Seattle fish market: play, make their day, be there and choose your attitude. When the video ended, staff broke into small groups to discuss how the fish principles could be applied to working at the college.
The staff enjoyed box lunches made by the BUMC catering service. Drawings for gift cards donated by Gail Parrigin-Clark, director of financial services, and office products donated by OAS Computer Supplies, rounded out the activities.
The day-long event was funded by Dr. James S. Cole, HSC-BCD dean, and organized by the staff development committee: Cindy Copeland, accounting technician in financial services, Joyce Hahn, administrative assistant in biomedical sciences; Annette Pearson, administrative coordinator in clinical affairs; Gracie Perez, clinic manager in clinical affairs; and Jeanne Santa Cruz, education specialist in biomedical sciences.
