Rankin assists in tobacco guidelines
The U.S. Public Health Service released new guidelines in May regarding tobacco cessation practices.
Dr. K. Vendrell Rankin, professor and associate chair of public health sciences and director of Baylor Tobacco Treatment Services, served as a peer reviewer and represented the American Dental Association during the update process.
The updated clinical practice guideline was developed by a 24-member private-sector panel of national tobacco treatment experts and identifies new counseling and medication treatments as effective tools to help individuals end tobacco use. Additionally, the panel found evidence that counseling can greatly increase a person’s success in quitting.
