Texas Dental Association recognizes faculty members for longtime DCDS membership
Several faculty members from multiple departments were honored recently for their years of membership in the Dallas County Dental Society and within organized dentistry. The awards are from the Texas Dental Association and include the DCDS Good Fellows Award, Life Membership Award and 50-Year Award.
Recipients are as follows:
- Dr. Mark Gannaway, restorative sciences
- Dr. Bob Hunsucker, general dentistry
- Dr. Barnett Bookatz, periodontics
- Dr. John Wright, diagnostic sciences
- Dr. Jim Boley, orthodontics, 50-Year Award
- Dr. Gil Triplett, oral and maxillofacial surgery, 50-Year Award
Condolences
Dr. Leo Gus Alexander
Dr. Leo Gus Alexander ’56, former faculty member in operative dentistry, passed away June 1. Alexander — honored as Dentist of the Year in 1985 — practiced in Dallas and Duncanville, Texas, for more than four decades and was dedicated to organized dentistry, with membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon and fellow status with the Academy of General Dentistry. He also served as vice president of the Texas Dental Association and was a life member delegate of the American Dental Association.
Funeral services were June 6 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas. Organizations to which memorials may be made include Holy Trinity; St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Euless, Texas; Assumption of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in San Angelo, Texas; and Methodist Health System Foundation, cardiac care.
Dorothy Nagy
Condolences are extended to Dr. William Nagy, professor in restorative sciences and director of the graduate prosthodontic program, whose mother, Dorothy Nagy, passed away June 2.
Funeral services were June 8 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chapel in Akron, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the Stephen Ministry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44313.
