Dr. David M. Grogan, currently vice chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery, will lead the department beginning Sept. 1. Dr. R. Gilbert Triplett is relinquishing his position after 16 years as chair.
Triplett will keep his faculty appointment in oral and maxillofacial surgery and maintain his position as chairman of the Department of Dentistry at Baylor University Medical Center.
“Dr. Triplett has been an exemplary leader,” says Dr. James S. Cole, dean. “I am grateful for all the contributions he has made, and I know that you will join me in wishing him well.”
Grogan received his undergraduate education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, before receiving his doctor of dental surgery degree from HSC-BCD in 1981. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at BUMC in Dallas. Grogan practiced in Waco prior to joining HSC-BCD’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2000.
“I believe we are fortunate to have a capable administrator who can assume leadership immediately,” says Cole. “I am confident that the department will continue to thrive under his leadership.”
Grogan is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists and a member of many state and national professional organizations. He is currently the president-elect for the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, an alternate delegate for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and an examining member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
