Dr. Rena D’Souza was invited to serve on the Program Advisory Committee of the Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine. The committee advises the TIGM leadership in several areas including the operations of the institute’s facilities in Houston and College Station and the recruitment of academic faculty and research scientists associated with TIGM.
Dr. Lynne Opperman was appointed by Dr. David Carlson, vice president for research and graduate studies of the HSC, to represent the HSC on the TAMUS Intellectual Property Constituent Committee.
Dr. Jayne Reuben served as organizer for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology/Minority Access to Research Careers Postdoctorate Preparation Institute at the 2007 Experimental Biology meeting April 27-28 in Washington, D.C.
Reuben began a three-year term in July as a member of the Committee for Career Development for Women and Minorities of the American Society for Investigative Pathology.
Dr. Kathy Svoboda presented a poster on the Rho-yfp project at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology meeting May 5-10 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She also attended an ARVO publications committee meeting.
Communications and Development
Dr. Claude Williams was honored July 17 at the National Naval Officers Association’s national conference in San Diego. One of the original founders of the organization, Williams was honored along with other founding members in celebration of the group’s 35th anniversary.
Lisa Harper Mallonee was an invited speaker on oral health and nutrition at the Oklahoma City Area Inter Tribal Annual Meeting on June 15.
Dr. Brent Hutson presented a session on soft tissue management, management of medically complex patients and results of a pilot study regarding fiber post cementation techniques April 13 at the International Key Educators Conference in South Jordan, Utah.
Drs. Stan Cobb and Dean Hudson (clinical affairs) attended the 7th International Dental Ethics and Law Congress’ pre-conference workshop titled “Appropriate outcomes and effective teaching in dental ethics” sponsored by the American Society of Dental Ethics in Toronto, Canada, May 22-24.
