Awards & Honors - April 2009

KinesMarch 18, 2009, was a special day for Dr. Gwendolyn Kines, a 2005 graduate of HSC-Baylor College of Dentistry. It was her day – literally – as the mayor of Terrell, Texas, proclaimed it Dr. Gwendolyn Kines Day.

Just the night before, Kines learned about the proclamation at a city council meeting. Not knowing why she had been summoned to the meeting, Kines was surprised to find more than 60 friends and family waiting there for the mayor’s proclamation. The room broke into applause when she entered.

Mayor Hal Richards’ proclamation recognized Kines for her contributions to Terrell. Kines, who graduated from Terrell High School in 1989, now gives back to the community where she grew up.

As a dentist, Kines participates in the American Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile.” She and her staff volunteer and sponsor a local event that provides preventive dental care to children. She also began her own nonprofit organization last year, Love Revival: Everything for Everyone, which provides dental services for $10 to uninsured patients.
