The fall semester is well under way, and the dental school is buzzing with activity. While most of the daily patient appointments, lectures and instruction center around the clinics, classrooms and labs, there are many whose work behind the scenes makes it all possible.
One of the many ways we uphold the high standards set at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry is through our committees, whose members spend many hours handling details and advancing the initiatives and philosophies that drive our dental school.
In August, we added several alumni as new committee members. These individuals — practicing dentists in the Dallas community — will lend fresh perspectives in the direction we take with the dental school’s ongoing activities.
Below are the alumni who responded to a call for volunteers:
- Dr. Larry Herwig ’84 – Admissions and Emerging Technology Advisory committees
- Dr. Jon Clemetson ’02 – Admissions Committee
- Dr. Steven Bender ’86 – Curriculum Committee
- Dr. Chris Cartwright ’78 – Planning and Assessment Committee
If you’re a D1 or DH1 and still acclimating to the pace of dental school, it may be hard to see beyond that next exam, but 2016 will be here before you know it. When that time comes, it’s likely you’ll want to find a way to give back to the dental school with your unique expertise.
Maybe you just crossed the stage at the Meyerson this spring, or perhaps your dental degree has decorated your office wall for so long it’s fading a bit at the edges, despite the framing. In either case, if you want an active, integral role at the college, there are opportunities for you. If you didn’t get to sign up for a committee this academic year, look for other ways to participate in the months to come. Stay tuned.
