Free Sealant and Prophy Day slated for Nov. 3

The Asian-American Dental Society’s biannual Free Sealant and Prophy Day will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the pediatric dentistry clinic. The service is free for children ages 6 to 14, regardless of socioeconomic status. To make an appointment, parents may call 214-828-8400 ext. 4199 after Oct. 15.

Condolences

Annie Mae Claiborne

The college extends sympathy to Earnest Claiborne, environmental services technician, whose mother, Annie Mae Claiborne, passed away Aug. 1. Visitation was Aug. 9, followed by funeral services on Aug. 10 at Singing Hills Baptist Church in Dallas.

Reminders

Need continuing education credits? Register now for TAMHSC-BCD’s two-day symposium.

The dental school will host its Back to School, Back to Basics Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 27-28. The symposium is open to dentists, auxiliaries and technicians, and includes training on topics ranging from addressing medical emergencies and treating medically compromised patients to periodontal criteria for soft tissue grafting, crown lengthening and bone grafting.

Registration includes a ticket to the Dallas Arboretum for a concert and dinner.

Save the date for a "country fair" and a charitable campaign

The 2012 State Employee Charitable Campaign began Sept. 1 and runs through Oct. 31 for staff and faculty interested in contributing a one-time donation or automatic payroll deduction for the next calendar year. Employees can opt to contribute to one or more of hundreds of select charitable organizations across the state.

To celebrate the yearly initiative, the college will host a "country fair" for students, faculty and staff, complete with cotton candy, corn dogs, games and more. Stay tuned for the event date, time and location.

Help TAWD race for the cure

The college’s chapter of the Texas Association of Women Dentists will be out in full force at the Oct. 20 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure at NorthPark Center. If you’re interested, you can join the team. To sign up or make a donation, you can go to the TAWD team page. Anyone can join, not just women! The fun run begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Contact D3 Naveen Karim, fundraising chair, at karim@bcd.tamhsc.edu with questions or concerns.

Get ready to smile, walk and run

The 2012 Smile Walk and Run fundraiser has a new location, date and pricing structure. Scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 at McInnish Park in Carrollton, Texas, registration prices for the 5K run are as follows:

June 1 – Oct. 2: $30

Oct. 6, Race Day: $40

Those 18 years and younger can register for a $20 fee.

The college and Baylor Oral Health Foundation are among several sponsors for the fundraiser, which benefits Community Dental Care, including:
