Preliminary numbers for North Texas Giving Day look good for BOHF

Matching funds have yet to be tallied, but initial counts from the 2012 North Texas Giving Day “Get up and Give!” initiative broke records in more ways than one. Across the entire metroplex, $14.4 million was raised for more than 900 nonprofits.

Donations to Baylor Oral Health Foundation followed suit, with $7,855 from 61 donors. Compared to last year, it’s an uptick of 118 percent in number of donors and 45 percent in donated funds. Approximately $6,630 will benefit the Cole Professorship.

Condolences

John Lee Hodges

John Lee Hodges, a longtime employee of the dental school, passed away Sept. 17. Hodges served the college for 28 years, retiring in 1988 as vice president of finance.

Born in Ravenna, Texas, Hodges graduated from Bonham High School and attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview. He is survived by wife Ora Nell, and his children, stepchildren and grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 20 at Kaufman’s First Baptist Church, where Hodges was a member.

Althea Dickens

The college offers sympathy to the family of Dr. David Grogan, associate professor and chair of oral surgery, whose mother-in-law, Althea Dickens, passed away Oct. 2.

Funeral services were Oct. 5 at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin, Texas.

Mary Lewis

Condolences are extended to Betty Walker, environmental services clinical worker, whose mother, Mary Lewis, passed away Sept. 29.

Funeral services were Oct. 5 at New Birth Baptist Church in Dallas.

John B. Lopez

The college offers sympathy to Bobby Lopez, journeyman electrician for facilities services, whose father, John B. Lopez, passed away Sept. 7. Funeral services were Sept. 10 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Stamford, Texas.

Marjorie Parrigin

Sympathy is extended to Gail Parrigin-Clark, director of financial services, whose mother, Marjorie Parrigin, passed away Sept. 19. Memorial services were Sept. 22 at Central United Methodist Church in Waco, Texas.
