Dental school survival strategy: “It helps to function as a team. Work with people. The more you give to others, the more you’ll benefit.”

Most productive time of day: “I’m such a night owl; 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.”

Best way to unwind after a long day in lecture or lab: “A long day in the gross lab always ruins people. I like to go ride my bicycle out to White Rock Lake, take a lap or two, and then jump in the pool when I get home.”

Favorite energy food: “If I even eat food, what would it be? Usually I drink coffee, and that curbs my appetite between meals. But I would have to say sunflower seeds; keeps the brain stimulated, right?”

Goal after graduation: “I am considering a residency. There are so many that interest me; right now we’ll see how things go.

“I would love to practice in the West Austin area, near Lake Austin, and settle down and have my kids grow up on the water.”

What people may not know about you: “When I lived in Iowa, my right pinky finger was smashed off on a merry-go-round in the city park. That happened when I was two, when I was learning how to scribble and throw things, toddler stuff. I was born right-handed, but I had this big cast on that hand. I was forced to use my left hand, and I just stayed with it after the cast was off. Now I do everything dental-wise left-handed, and most other things either-or. But anytime I pick up something new, I can usually choose.”
