Skip breadcrumb navigation Former Dean Richard BradleyWe are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Richard E. Bradley, former Dean of Baylor College of Dentistry, who passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012.

Dr. Bradley became president and dean at Baylor College of Dentistry after serving as dean of the University Of Nebraska College Of Dentistry for 12 years. In 1977, he was inducted into the Nebraska Dental Association’s Hall of Fame. During his tenure as dean at BCD, Dr. Bradley received two prestigious awards at the annual meeting of the American Dental Association in September 2007. He also accepted the William John Gies Award, the highest honor the American College of Dentists can bestow upon a fellow of the organization and the Pierre Fauchard Gold Medal from the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

During his 10 years at BCD, the college’s research program grew, as did its physical plant. Alumni involvement increased, continuing education expanded, and a number of new programs were founded including the General Dentistry Program, Community Preceptor Program and the Stomatology Center. The college also established the $1 million Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics, the college’s first endowed chair. He also served on the board of directors of the Baylor Oral Health Foundation.

Faculty presentations at national and international professional societies more than tripled and the number of papers published by faculty in scholarly journals more than doubles. After 33 years in dental education, Dr. Bradley retired on January 31, 1990. His contributions to his department and this organization will not be forgotten.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1200 S. 40th St., Lincoln, NE 68510.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the University of Nebraska Foundation for Bradley Dental Scholarship Fund.

Baylor College of Dentistry offers our heartfelt sympathy to the Bradley family.
