Miles for Smiles initiative pulls in $10,000 for college’s social services fund

Miles for Smiles, an initiative of the Pre-Dental Association at UT Dallas, has grown exponentially each year, and the fourth annual runathon was no exception. On May 24, the undergraduate student organization presented the college with a check for $10,000 to put toward the Baylor College of Dentistry Social Services Dental Care Fund, which offers interest-free loans to qualified patients to help them complete their treatment.

Need continuing education hours? Two more seminars to be offered in June.

The first continuing education course, “Patient Management of Intrascapular and Extrascapular TMD,” will be Friday, June 15. Dr. Steven Bender, a 1986 alumnus who maintains a private practice devoted to dental sleep medicine and pain management of the head and face, will present the lecture, which is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The second course is slated for June 22 – 23 and is geared around dental implant treatment options for completely edentulous patients. Drs. Jorge Gonzalez, assistant professor and director of the college’s Center for Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, and Gilbert Triplett, Regents Professor and vice chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery, will present the course.
