Honors
Three dental hygiene graduates were recently inducted into the Beta chapter of the Sigma Phi Alpha honor society in recognition of their high scholastic achievement. Shelley Burleson, Haley Hays and Nessa Placheril Pathiyil were inducted into the honor society, which was originally created in 1958 to promote scholarship, leadership and service among dental hygiene students and graduates.

General Dentistry
Events
Dr. Linda Cheng served as a deputy examiner for the 2012 American Board of General Dentistry Oral Examination in Chicago from May 3 to 6. Deputy examiners are selected from an applicant pool of board-certified dentists. Cheng served as an examiner for the section of operative dentistry, and Dr. John Safar ’91 also served as a deputy examiner, but in the section of oral surgery.

Periodontics
Presentations
Drs. Nancy Burkhart and Terry Rees presented a seminar regarding lichen planus and allergic responses to the Dental Forum of Milwaukee on May 4.
On May 8, Burkhart presented "Body of Evidence: What Clue is Your Body Giving You?" to the Metrolina Dental Hygiene Association in Charlotte, N.C.
