“I love watching the students develop confidence and grow professionally.”
On the heels of a successful 2011 site visit from the Commission on Dental Accreditation, Patricia Campbell can still recall how she felt during her first CODA experience in the late ’90s. It was a little nerve-racking, especially considering that at the time, the commission’s standards had just changed, and only one person in the entire department had been through the accreditation process before.
“It was a tremendous amount of work, but we finished without any recommendations,” says Campbell, associate professor and graduate program director for the Caruth School of Dental Hygiene. “It was great to work with the rest of the dental hygiene faculty and have such a good outcome.”
Campbell’s relationship with her co-workers and students is one of her favorite things about her time at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. It’s the reason she has stayed for 20 years since joining the college as an assistant professor and clinic coordinator in summer 1991.
“TAMHSC-BCD is a very friendly place to work,” says Campbell. “I really enjoy working with the students — they keep me up to date, and I always learn something from them.”
Fortunately for Campbell, her days are filled with directing two senior courses and working with several graduate students on thesis development.
“I love watching the students develop confidence and grow professionally,” she says.
“Reading and embroidery.”
“I have two children; a daughter, Audra, and a son, Jay. Both live in the area.”
