The college offers sympathy to Karen Newhouse, lead office associate in recruitment and admissions, whose mother, Lavera Newhouse, passed away Oct. 18. Funeral services were Oct. 21 at Concord Church in Dallas.
Heartfelt sympathies are extended to Sandra Stansbury, accounting technician in financial services, whose mother, Christine Hadley, passed away Oct. 29. Visitation was Nov. 1 and funeral services were Nov. 2 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2011 Baylor College of Dentistry Hall of Fame Award
The Hall of Fame Award is among the highest honors bestowed on individuals by Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry to recognize a person or persons who have contributed distinguished service to the college and/or the dental profession. These awards are not limited to alumni of Baylor College of Dentistry or members of the dental profession.
Nominations for the 2011 Hall of Fame Award must be received in the Office of Communications & Institutional Advancement, Room 522, attention Susan Mitchell Jackson, by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee, chaired by Ms. Jackson, will then meet to review the submitted nominations.
The 2011 award(s) will be presented at a Jan. 20 luncheon in College Station, Texas, immediately preceding the HSC Convocation.

Save the date for Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association’s 2012 Homecoming Reception
Mark your calendars for Friday, Jan. 13, 2012. Between 5 and 6:30 p.m., alumni of Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry will have the opportunity to visit with fellow classmates as well as honor the Alumni Association’s 2011 Distinguished Alumnus.
As the honoree, Dr. Amp Miller III ’73, professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences and director of curriculum in the Office of Academic Affairs, will be recognized during the awards presentation.
The recipient of the 2012 Betty J. Scott Scholarship also will be announced.
The event, which will be in the Grand Ballroom at The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, coincides with the Southwest Dental Conference, scheduled for Jan. 12-14.
TAMHSC-BCD book club’s first meeting is Dec. 20
The Baylor Health Sciences Library invites students, faculty and staff to BiblioChat, its new book club! BiblioChat meetings are open to employees and students at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry and Baylor University Medical Center. The monthly lunchtime meetings will be in the Baylor Health Sciences Library.
The first book club meeting will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Dec. 20. Feel free to bring a lunch and discuss The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. This nonfiction work examines the life and legacy of Henrietta Lacks, a woman whose cells were used for years as part of extensive medical research without her prior knowledge or consent.
Three copies of this book are available through the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute Library, and three copies will soon be available through the Baylor Health Sciences Library, located on the first floor of the Truett building, between the Beasley Auditorium and the Baylor College of Dentistry.
