Meeting new applicants and rejoicing with them when they are accepted to Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry is the best thing about Janet Pledger’s job as admissions coordinator. She is thrilled when students tell her how much she’s helped them.

“It is especially meaningful when students who had to apply several times appreciate my advice on ways they might improve their applications,” Pledger says.

Those who know her aren’t surprised. Pledger demonstrates the highest level of professional commitment and competency in her work with potential students and their families, current students and her colleagues. Described as sweet-natured and helpful, Pledger is friendly, hard-working and always smiling. She willingly and often goes the extra mile in service to others.

Pledger lives her personal motto: Life is all about change. If things are not going the way you want right now, do something about it.

“Set goals and work toward making the changes that you want,” Pledger says. “People who complain about their lives but do nothing to make changes are my biggest pet peeve.

“Pray to God and start paddling for the shore,” she continues.

Pledger cares deeply about TAMHSC-BCD, the dental profession and the people involved with it all, but family and traveling are her passions. Pledger’s mother is her role model and her father’s scratch-made chicken and dumplings is her favorite comfort food. When she’s not at work, she enjoys reading, fishing and camping on the Brazos River near Hearne, Texas.

While Pledger lives in Kaufman now, when she retires, she hopes to buy an RV and do lots of traveling.
