Lu, Zapata receive fellowships

Dr. Yongbo “Bob” Lu
Dr. Yongbo “Bob” Lu, assistant professor in biomedical sciences at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry, has been selected a Haddad Fellow by the Advances in Mineral Metabolism/American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. He will receive travel funds to attend and give a presentation at the John Haddad Young Investigators’ meeting April 4-9 in Snowmass, Colo.

Dr. Uriel Zapata received the American Association of Anatomists Postdoctoral Fellowship. He became a faculty member in Colombia after earning his doctorate in biomedical sciences at TAMHSC-BCD. His mentors were Dr. Paul Dechow, professor and vice chair of biomedical sciences, and Dr. Lynne Opperman, professor of biomedical sciences and director of technology development.

As an award winner, he will receive a $20,000 fellowship and travel funds to the next AAA meeting. Zapata plans to use the fellowship to continue his postdoctoral work with Dr. Qian Wang, who previously was a postdoctoral fellow with Dechow. Wang is now a faculty member at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga.
