Genesis Women's Shelter
Staff Forum Service Project
During the month of June, the Staff Forum at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry asked college employees to donate personal toiletry items for clients of the Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas.
Faculty and staff responded in a big way to this service project, donating a total of 350 individual items. This supplied 26 complete personal care packets that were assembled and delivered to the shelter.
Genesis provides safety and shelter through crisis intervention to battered women and children in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. It provides everything clients need to feel as comfortable as possible during their time of crisis. Many clients arrive at the Genesis Women's Shelter with little more than the clothes on their backs.
Priscilla Cadena, donations coordinator for Genesis, wrote in her letter of thanks to the college, "With so many worthy causes and organizations to support, we are honored you have chosen to help Genesis Women's Shelter and the nameless, faceless victims."
In a June 29 e-mail to HSC-BCD staff regarding the project, Staff Forum President Liz Lester offered special thanks to Darla Benson for overseeing the project and to Taryn Walker for assisting with the care-packet assembly.
"I think we can be very proud of this effort, and it speaks well of the staff here at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry," wrote Lester. "Take pride in this worthy accomplishment."
