Alumna collaborates on notable research
Frieda Atherton Pickett's research has received some attention as of late.
She is working with Dr. David Kaelber, assistant professor of internal medicine and pediatrics with the MetroHealth System at Case Western Reserve University. The two have collaborated on a simple table for identifying the pediatric patient who needs evaluation for blood pressure elevations. Their work was published in the June 2009 issue of "Pediatrics" * and recently was listed as one of the top 10 most important research papers having clinical relevance in pediatric medicine from March 2009-February 2010 by "Contemporary Pediatrics."
Pickett '66 is an alumna and former Caruth School of Dental Hygiene faculty member at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. She worked previously with Dr. Tommy Gage '61, also a former faculty member at HSC-BCD, on Mosby's (now Elsevier's) Dental Drug Reference, which became one of the top-selling dental reference texts. It reached its 7th edition before being discontinued by the publisher.
Pickett authored other textbooks for oral healthcare professionals including Preventing Medical Emergencies: Use of the Medical History and Basic Pharmacology with Dental Hygiene Applications.
Now residing in Tennessee, Pickett provides continuing education courses for dental and dental hygiene groups. She is a frequent speaker at the Southwest Dental Conference.
