Miles for Smiles
Now THAT'S something to smile about
Kudos to the students of The University of Texas at Dallas Pre-dental Association for their hard work in preparing and presenting the Miles for Smiles fundraising event on April 24.
Now in its second year, this runathon is devoted to raising money for people in the Dallas area who cannot afford dental care. All proceeds from the 2010 event benefit the Social Services Dental Care Fund at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. The fund enables qualified patients to complete their dental care, and that in turn helps students complete their requirements.
"This is currently the only fundraiser that benefits our fund, and we hope to see it grow larger each year," says Leeanna Bartlett, assistant professor and director of social services. "UTD students Sammy Mahmoud conceived and oversaw the event last year. Mehrat Sadeghpour, a classmate of Mahmoud's, was in charge this year - with some help from Sammy.
"Everyone had a good time at this year's event," continues Bartlett. "We are grateful for the students at UTD and look forward to next year."
