A rite of passage

White coats mark transition

students at ceremonyMembers of the second-year dental class celebrated a rite of passage on Feb. 5 as the honorees of the White Coat Ceremony at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

Sponsored by the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association, the annual ceremony is intended to reinforce the significance of class members' journey into the next phase of their education as they enter the clinics. It also is a celebration of the students' commitment to the goals of professionalism, ethics, scientific and technical expertise and compassionate care. In short, the white coat is an outward sign to the world that they are health care professionals.

The students received their coats from Dr. Scott Staffel '95, president, and Dr. Jon Clemetson '02, secretary-treasurer of the Alumni Association. Dr. Nancy Dickey, HSC president and vice chancellor for health affairs, was in attendance and offered greetings to the students, their family members and friends.
