New directors join Foundation's board

Bigham, president and treasurer of the Baylor Oral Health Foundation, announced that the foundation elected Dr. Patricia Blanton '74, Dr. Kathy Hamilton '85 and Carl Schieffer to its board of directors during its Feb. 19 meeting. The foundation is an independent, nonprofit corporation created in 1993 and chartered by the state of Texas to benefit Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry.

Blanton, a Dallas periodontist, is professor emeritus at HSC-BCD and an alumna of the college, where she earned her doctor of dental surgery degree and certificate in periodontics. She taught at HSC-BCD in the departments of biomedical sciences, periodontics and gross anatomy, serving as department chair from 1983 to 1985. Blanton's numerous leadership activities have included serving as the first woman president of the Texas Dental Association in 2003-2004 and as a past president of the Dallas County Dental Society and the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association. Blanton has been recognized as a distinguished alumna of the college, and the Patricia L. Blanton Library was established in her honor at the college in 1998.

Hamilton is a principal with Phase II Associates, LLC in Dallas, a specialty dental practice brokerage and consulting group. Prior to receiving her MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas, she was a practicing dentist in Dallas and received her dental degree from HSC-BCD in 1985. Before entering dental school, Hamilton was a dental hygienist in Pennsylvania and Dallas. She is active in many professional and civic organizations, including the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, CEO Roundtable and Leadership Dallas Mentoring Program. She has published numerous articles for business and medical publications.

Schieffer is president and CEO of Live Oak State Bank. He is a 1970 graduate of Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in financial administration. A former president of Swiss Avenue Bank, Schieffer held offices at Bank of Texas, Texas American Bank Dallas and Lakewood Bank and Trust. He also has served as president and chairman of several organizations, including Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, East Dallas YMCA, the Boy Scouts White Buffalo District and Town North Civitan Club, and he is a member of Leadership Dallas. Schieffer was an ensign in the U.S. Navy.
