Anderton receives leadership award
Dr. Xochitl Anderton '03 recently received the Emerging Leader award from The Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health Policy of The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
The award was presented Feb. 27 during the National Association of Community Health Centers Policy and Issues Forum in Washington, D.C.
The Emerging Leader award was presented to Anderton for her extraordinary service and leadership in clinical management as the dental director for the Community Health Center of Lubbock.
The CHCL serves the underserved citizens from Lubbock, Crosby, Lynn, Terry, and Garza counties. It has four dental clinics including one mobile dental unit.
Partnering agencies include the City of Lubbock, Texas Department of State Health Services, University Medical Center, Covenant Health System, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, MHMR, Lubbock Independent School District, Catholic Family Service and Lutheran Social Services.
Anderton now serves the community in which she grew up, and she contributes this firsthand experience to her success in running the dental clinics. According to the advisory group of health science center leaders in charge of selecting the 2010 awardees, Anderton was selected for the award because she has helped the CHCL further its mission of providing high-quality primary and preventive health care services to the underserved populations in the Lubbock region. Additionally, she has shown commitment, motivation, professional achievement and leadership.
