Ann Lovelady

V. Ann Lovelady - 20 Years
Periodontics

Ann LoveladyWith her technical skills and warm personality, Ann Lovelady has been making beautiful smiles happen for 20 years as a dental hygienist.

Although she enjoys the technical aspect of treating patients, her real fulfillment comes from the day-to-day interactions with faculty, students, staff and patients at the college. She comments that Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry provides a dynamic and interesting environment.

"The people are what I like most about my job," says Lovelady. "The friendships I have with both co-workers and patients make my job great, and knowing that I am taking care of people is very gratifying.

"Treating my patients' oral health considerations and being a friend to them as well is important to me," she says. "I like for them to leave their appointment in a brighter frame of mind than when they arrived. If I accomplish that, then I know I have done a good day's work."

Lovelady says that other favorite memories from HSC-Baylor College of Dentistry over the past 20 years revolve around the social gatherings, which "lend a family atmosphere to the school".   The annual Christmas parties, luncheons and singing with the choral group are among her most vivid recollections.

She comments that personnel have changed the most over the years, but she feels privileged to have met some of the best people because of her employment at the school.  During her 20 years as a dental hygienist for the school she has worked all 20 years in the orthodontics department and has also worked for four years in the periodontics department and for three years in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department.

When she is not at HSC-BCD, Lovelady appreciates her hobbies and her family. She enjoys dancing, singing in choir and working on her home. Her daughter, Cheryl, is finishing her second year of law school at the University of Houston. Her son, Randy, is completing an associate degree in broadcast journalism from Richland College. He will transfer to the University of North Texas to pursue a bachelor's degree in radio, television and film with plans to become a sports broadcaster.

Lovelady's Chihuahua mixes, Yoda and Leia, adopted from local animal shelters, round out the family.  She adds that the "...pooches make our lives a continuing challenge every day."
