Dr. N. Sue Seale
Dr. N. Sue Seale - 35 Years
Dr. Suzi Seale has been serving the students and patients of Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry for 35 dedicated years.
Seale, Regents Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, counts as one of her favorite memories the day Dr. Richard Bradley, then dean of the college, informed her he was offering her the chairmanship of the pediatric dentistry department.
"I had completely prepared myself for him to name another individual and almost fell out of my chair," Seale remembers. She served as department head for 23 years. Additionally, she directed the graduate program in pediatric dentistry for 17 years. It remains one of the most highly regarded and competitive programs in the country.
Seale has received numerous accolades over the years for her work. In 1997, she received the Baylor College of Dentistry Distinguished Alumni award. That same year she became the college's first successful Regents Professor nominee.
In 2001 she was named Pediatric Dentist of the Year by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation, and she received their Merle C. Hunter Leadership Award in 2002.
She is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. On Jan. 1 she became the editor in chief of Pediatric Dentistry and the Journal of Dentistry for Children. Also in January, she received HSC-BCD's highest honor when she was named to the Hall of Fame.
Now that she has relinquished the chairmanship duties into the capable hands of Dr. Alton McWhorter-one of her former graduate students-Seale enjoys focusing primarily on teaching. She says that the stimulating environment at the college and the ongoing challenge to keep learning are the most attractive aspects of working at HSC-BCD.
Outside of work, Seale enjoys cooking, reading and shopping.
