Dental Hygiene turns 100

What began a century ago as a fledgling class in southwestern Connecticut has since grown into a dynamic profession.

On Jan. 17, approximately 100 dental hygienists from across Dallas and the Southwest took pause to celebrate the profession during a reception at Omni Dallas Hotel’s West End Lounge.

The occasion coincided with the 2013 Southwest Dental Conference in Dallas so dental hygienists from across the country could attend.

As dental hygiene celebrates 100 years in the U.S., here’s a closer look at how the profession got its start and blossomed into what it is today.

BCD Alumni Association members are exceptional professionals and are leaders in local, state and national dental organizations. Our alumni also are active volunteers in their communities through local government, nonprofit organizations, places of worship, schools, etc. Many alumni come back to the school to teach while maintaining outside dental practices. Others mentor prospective dental students or volunteer as members of our alumni or foundation boards.
