I am a I am a student from St. Mary's Academy researching the history and present information on women dentists.  I chose this subject because I wish to become a dentist one of these days (not a Hygienest) and hopefully this report will enhance me a bit more. I realize this is a difficult subject as I have already experienced and I am curious if you have any information or links for women dentists/dentistry.  Thank you for your time and patience.

Thanks for your inquiry to the Baylor College of Dentistry Home Page. I have many articles on women in dentistry which I would be happy send to you. If you are on a tight time schedule, the best reference on the history of women dentists is an article  "Practice characteristics of women dentists" by Linda Niessen, Dushanka Kleinman, and Ardell Wilson in the Journal of the American Dental Association Volume 113, pages 885-888, December, l986. You can get this journal at the University of Texas Health Science Center Library in San Antonio. Good luck on your paper. Dentistry is a great career for women!

Sincerely,

Linda C. Niessen, DMD
